Fantastic new ward opens to patients

11 December 2014

The unit, for patients requiring intermediate care and neuro-rehabilitation, opened in December. Situated on the fourth floor of B block, the 34 bed unit replaces the former Reeves and Chislehurst wards.

Meadow View, named by a former patient, is brightly decorated with a gymnasium and day room and offers a homely environment for patients prior to their discharge into the community.

The development took six months to complete at a cost of £1.9m and is part of our major redevelopment programme at Queen Mary's Hospital.

We are undertaking numerous developments across the Queen Mary's Hospital site as part of an exciting three year transformation programme, including a new Cancer Centre due to open in 2016. Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust will deliver the services within the Cancer Centre that will allow patients to access cancer treatments such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy locally, instead of having to travel further afield.

We have started work on a new Kidney Treatment Centre, which will provide patients with a comprehensive range of kidney services including renal dialysis and medicine.

In addition there will be a new day-surgery unit, a children’s centre and a new urgent care centre.

Services at Queen Mary’s Hospital are run by a number of renowned local healthcare organisations. Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust owns the hospital site and services are provided by:

• Oxleas NHS FT
• Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust
• King's College Hospital NHS FT
• Lewisham and Greenwich Healthcare NHS Trust
• Guy's and St Thomas' NHS FT
